My grandfather, the original PHD, moved out here for his health and to start a new adventure. Both his parents immigrated to the United States and brought with them a strong work ethic. This has been passed down through generations. My grandfather took whatever jobs he could find from building a railroad to finishing drywall. He came to love drywall, “white gold” as he would call it, and made a career out of what was initially a temporary job. My dad followed in his footsteps. From a very young age, PHD Jr. also learned the trade of drywall. He eventually started his own drywall business, but soon found a passion for learning new trades, and eventually became a licensed contractor in both residential and commercial construction. He would take me, PHD III, to most of his jobs during my summer breaks. I too learned the different trades and enjoyed learning how things work. I mostly enjoyed the process of diagnosing a problem and figuring out the most effective way to fix it.
After I graduated from high school, I took a break from construction and attended the University of Arizona. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and took a job as a social worker. I eventually transitioned into teaching and worked in special education for seven years. I always enjoyed building rapport with my students and the challenge of working alongside them to reach their goals. No matter what job I have held, I also found myself completing projects around the house and doing odd jobs for friends and family. In 2021, I decided to launch my own part-time business, and HANDYMAN, PHD III. In June 2023, I decided to step away from education and launch HANDYMAN, PHD III full-time. As a handyman, I can combine my passions of building relationships, working hands on, and creative thinking to diagnose problems and figure out the most effective ways to fix them. My priority is to build client relationships and produce quality work — I hope we can work together very soon!
